At university there are endless opportunities to try out new things and dabble in this and that. It might seem like a scary prospect now, but you have your whole life ahead of you to make those tricky career-altering decisions.

So don’t worry if you didn’t get it right the first time, this lot have proved that it is never too late for a change. These celebs have certainly managed to turn it all around, some swapped for the better – and some of them should have probably stuck to their day jobs.

1. Kicking off with one of our favourite celebrity career swaps; who could forget Alex James exchanging tunes for cheese? After Blur, and before they temporarily reformed, he packed his bags and ran off to become a cheese maker in the Cotswolds. He has even won industry awards!

2. Cuddly George Foreman is best known for his legendary George Foreman grill. You could be mistaken for thinking he is a one trick pony, but what people tend to forget is that he has many other talents tucked up his sleeve other than his lean mean grilling machine. For a start, he is a two-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion and has even won an Olympic gold medal! He continued to box on and off until the 90s, when he somehow found the time to experience a spiritual rebirth and become a Baptist minister. Yep, you heard right. These days George is taking it easy, very occasionally serving as a boxing analyst for matches.

3. Thanks to RnB star Kelis, we already know that milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, but apparently not as much as sauces do. She has just graduated from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school and is now a certified saucier! Kelis has brought out her signature sauce line named ‘Feast’ which she showed off at the Beverly Hills Food & Wine Festival. She posted several images online of herself rocking an apron, which seems to be all the encouragement foodies needed to get their purses out and snap up those sauces.

4. Lance Bass from 90s boyband ’N Sync wants to become an astronaut! He finished his cosmonaut training at Russia’s Star City complex a few years back, but so far he is still waiting for his trip into space. Unfortunately he couldn’t cough up the cash, (a hefty $20 million just to pay for his training and flight!) and his private investors didn’t come up with the ‘significant payment’ towards it that had been promised in a previous agreement. Bass was relying on commercial sponsors and TV executives to provide the necessary financial support, who naturally wanted to make a reality-TV series about his space adventures.

5. Mariah Carey took a break from being a record breaking solo artist and full time diva to give acting a try. Her acting debut came about back in 2001 when she starred in ‘Glitter’ loosely based on her real-life rise to fame, described by many as a complete disaster. She managed to scrape back a bit of acting credibility later on, even winning an AWARD for it. The Palm Springs Film Festival honoured Mariah with the Breakthrough Performance Award when she appeared in ‘Precious’ as a frumpy social worker, despite fans pointing out that she seemed to be sat behind a desk in the background for most of her scenes.
